Ok, So I'm going to be needing to ship an acrylic painting on a 36x24 7/8'' deep stretched canvas. It has a coat of varnish applied to it as well. As far as shipping goes, is it safe to just wrap the canvas in bubble wrap and make a custom cardboard crate for it? Will the bubble wrap do any damage to the surface of the painting or is it ok because of the varnish? Thanks. How to Ship an Acrylic Painting?
Get some #25G glassine and cut that and fold it over the paint, then put the bubble wrap on and make your custom cardboard crate. There could be chemicals in the bubble wrap that could 'harm' the paint or the varnish, but the Glassine is made to store art, and that is acid free and should be a good enough barrier. How to Ship an Acrylic Painting?
You can buy cardboard shipping boxes made just for this sort of thing. They are available at U-Haul stores in the US. If you live outside the US, a local moving company will probably have them for a small price.
Bubble wrap will be OK. I've moved several times and wrapped several acrylic paintings in bubble-wrap -- no harm was done to the paintings.
