My dog has been having gastrointestinal problems for about 3-4 weeks. I have been back and forth to the vet and have already spent over $500; and still no definite answer on the cause. I have asked a couple questions on here before in which I explained her symptoms in detail, if you need a little more background information. But basically she was throwing up (but hasn't in about 2 weeks); diarrhea (still has not gone away, but no longer has blood in it); lethargic (not as bad anymore, but still definately not her old self); increased/frequent urination and excessive drinking in the past 4-5 days; kinda acts skiddish at times (she even flinched at me which she does not do since I've never hit her....in fact, she'll do something wrong and then hide behind me cause she knows I'll protect her. LoL)
I was thinking of any possible changes in her environment that could have brought this on, and I believe the construction on the apartment directly above mine began at the same time. I live in a building which was built in the 1920s (well kept up, but still old) which I am sure has lead paint since almost all built before like 1978 do. I have noticed alot more dust on tables and when I vaccuum, and they even punched a small hole in my bedroom wall (it's already fixed).
I found some good articles on lead poisoning (i.e. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?鈥?/a> and think this may be the problem. She has always licked things constantly; the walls, furniture, blankets, and especially her front paws. So today at her recheck, I asked the vet about testing for it and he said those aren't really accurate but he wouldn't recommend keeping her there while the renovations are going on. Well, they won't be done with the apartment for at least a month or two; so I'm in a predicament. I should get the blood test results within a couple days, but I'm not sure if they are going to be able to tell me anything this time since they haven't the last 2 times.
Has anyone had any similar type of experience? If so, do you have any information on a test to identify it or treatments?
Would getting an air purifier help at all?
How harmful is lead-paint (and the dust created from remodeling) to your dog?
Pets are people too......
Milly the dog damn near died of lead poisoning... Milly belonged to George and Barbara Bush. Milly was poisoned in the White House durning remodeling
Iam on the road today so can't get to all my files to send to you about lead but you should have your 'loved one' cheked at once.
You may even prevent some other 'humans' from getting poisoned. tomorrow night I will send you what all you need to know. If you can have her blood cheked i'd do it at once.
In the mean time drop me a note............
